In his book, The Mystic Heart, chronicled Wayne Teasdale's journey from a traditional Catholic to the Eastern way of sannyasa (Indian monkhood). A Monk in the World lays out for the reader what this journey has meant for Wayne. It describes living as a monk outside of the monastery, integrating eastern teaching and other world religons with Catholic training. It shows us how to find our own inner monastery in a busy, modern world.
Many peoples, all over the world, have taken parts of the Catholic religon and incorporated it into more ancient and powerful religons. It is not new, but this book is written in such an open, inviting style, that it invites contemplation without judgement. There is no right or wrong way, we are only privy, for a brief moment, to what happened to Wayne Teasdale and can incoporate parts of his journey into our own.
